In the Word: Press On!
Friday, February 10, 2012 at 8:25AM Have you ever noticed that people who are not Christians expect us to be perfect and often mock Christianity on television and in other media? Seth Grahame-Smith is a writer who specializes in strange spoof literature. He wrote a book that you may have heard about called “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.” (Clearly destined to be a classic.) He also wrote a new book just coming out, called “Unholy Night.” It tells of an alternative history of Mary, Joseph and the Wise Men in which the Wise men are a group of killers.
I have not read his most recent book, but the continual satirizing of God’s Word and the watering down of the meaning and power of His message is reaching epic proportions. That is the world we live in right now. I have a feeling it won’t be getting any better, but do not despair!
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair
2 Corinthians 4:8
Christians in every denomination are being pulled away from God by the world. Many are simply caving in to the pressure to go along with what everyone else is doing. We see it all around us every day. We all feel that pressure. Remember this…
I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Philippians 3:12b
God assures us we are not alone. He is with us, so we press on.
Our school is heading straight into this wave of public sentiment and standing firm. We do not believe we should give in. We are leading children in their Christian faith walk! We believe God has called us to something more special, a relationship with Him. That is all he really wants. He wants us to know Him as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He wants us to see the forgiveness that He has offered through His son Jesus. He wants us to be renewed in our faith through the power of the Holy Spirit and keep on moving!
Peer pressure?
We press on.
Economic hardship and concerns?
We press on.
Fear about the future?
We press on.
Cancer?
We press on.
I think that the Apostle Paul said it best…
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14
